    Banana Custard Cream Pie Recipe

Banana Cream Custard Pie? I’ll take a slice (or three)! From the looks of all my friends’ posts on Facebook, it appears Thanksgiving was a raging success this year for everyone. But, then again, when is it not? Lots of family, friends and some of the best food of the year. Why we don’t roast turkeys more often is beyond me! Anyway, my family was no different. We (all 15 of us) feasted at my parents’ farm, with turkey and all the trimmings (which includes several vegetarian favorites prepared by my herbivore sister and her boyfriend husband, and no green bean casserole). Dessert included the banana cream pie I had…

  • Rustic Cardamom Vanilla Apple Pie

    Rustic Cardamom Vanilla Apple Pie

Macy’s approached me last week about being included in their mBlog Recipe Showcase, in which I talk about one of my favorite Thanksgiving recipes. And as an added bonus, one of you have the opportunity to win a fabulous gift (more on that at the bottom of the post), perfect for using during one of you own holiday meals. We are now less than one week away from Thanksgiving making its annual appearance in homes across the country. My family celebrates with the traditional fare: Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, cranberry sauce, and a slew of other goodies. Even though I’d love to host Thanksgiving at our house, I can’t.…

  • The ‘Other’ Thanksgiving

Every year at work my small office has its own Thanksgiving, potluck-style. We try to bring dishes that aren’t traditional to a normal Thanksgiving dinner. Wouldn’t want to get our fill before Thursday even has a chance to happen. That would be, well, unfortunate. The only staple to our lunch is a smoked turkey that my boss orders from Texas each year, then we all fill in the odds and ends in sides and spend about two hours chatting and eating. It’s really a good time and I’m thankful to have co-workers that truly are good company. I think the highlight of this year’s lunch was a homemade cherry pie…

  • The Pioneer Woman’s Perfect Pecan Pie

My take on The Pioneer Woman’s pecan pie recipe is it’s, without a doubt, the best pecan pie I’ve ever made. I read about Ree’s pecan pie on her blog and I even watched her make it on Food Network. So, when my family asked me to bring pecan pie to our Thanksgiving dinner one year, I knew worlds had collided … the heavens were about to open … and angels would start singing — fate had called upon my humble kitchen. No? Too much? Haha, ok, yep. Truth is, even though I’ve made a lot of pie over the years, I’ve only made pecan pie once. It turned out good,…

  • Emeril's delicious and unbeatable Key Lime Pie recipe, with a few tweaks—it might even be better frozen!

    Unbeatable Key Lime Pie

This is my twist on Emeril’s deliciously tart key lime pie recipe — it’ll become a fast favorite in your house!  I love pies. Specifically, I love tart, creamy, gooey pies. I was on the hunt for a good key lime pie, and as many of my recipe searches did in 2010, this one started with the Food Network site. There were easy recipes, difficult recipes, recipes with five stars and some with none. I sorted by my favorite chefs, and then unsorted. Then, finally I came across *the* recipe. It was simple without being artificial, had a short ingredient list (some of which I already had in my kitchen),…
