Growing up, our house was never filled with tons of sweets. We had a few things here and there like cookies and Popsicles, but never a ton of sugary goodies. A big treat was a special outing with my dad to 7-Eleven for a Slurpee and a package of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
Actually, Slurpees and Reese’s Cups are still a big treat for me.
We never, however, were without savory snacks. Potato chips, crackers and peanuts were always in the cupboard, and my dad kept a tin of smoked almonds by his chair in the family room (which we all took advantage of – God those things were addictive).
So, needless to say, I was pretty excited a few weeks ago when Santé Nuts asked if I would be interested in trying their line of ‘Perfectly Crunchy Nuts for Snacking and Salads.’ Um, yes!
There were four bags tucked neatly into a box that was shipped directly to me from Santé Nuts: Roasted Salted Pecans, Candied Pecans, Candied Walnuts and Garlic Almonds.
My favorite? Hands down, their Garlic Almonds.
I wouldn’t recommend eating a handful of Santé Nuts‘ Garlic Almonds if you’re getting ready to talk to anyone within five feet of where you’re sitting. Dragon-garlic breath: good for you; bad for them.
However, if you have a night alone with a book or a movie – these should be your go-to treat. Rich in flavor, the tastes melt on your tongue with the “Zip & Zing” the package promises – a little salty, a lot garlicky and just a bit of spice that lingers on your tongue.
You can’t just eat one. Or 20.
The others? They’re going into my freezer to save for later (a great way to preserve nuts). And, I ‘m thinking the Candied Pecans will be perfect, ground with shortbread cookies as a base for a holiday cheesecake.
