At the beginning of this month I announced September’s Food Challenge: Apples.
With fall around the corner, September marks the beginning of my most favorite time of year for cooking (and not just because Thanksgiving finalizes the fall cooking season like a nicely wrapped present on Christmas.) Pies, long simmering stews, hot cocoa, spices…what’s not to love? So, I posed this question to my readers – what recipe or meal involving apples would you like to see me cook and blog about?
Apples, apples, apples
A couple of things have become clear to me over the past two weeks:
- Apples must not be as enticing as peaches when it comes to asking your readers suggest recipes.
- I enjoy researching recipes and cooking more when I’m cooking for guests.
As of today, I only had one suggestion for apples, and it was to cook them with pork chops. I’ve made pork chops with apples before, and the two really compliment each other. However, that particular idea won’t work well with the event I’m hosting at my house later this month because I need something lighter…a dessert…an appetizer…or BOTH.
On the 30th, I’m hosting a party for my sister and there will be between six and eight guests. Last night I spent time perusing recipes, dreaming about what to serve. Sweet, savory, cooked, warm, cool, made in advance, simple, or not. Thinking about all these things is one of my favorite parts of the whole cooking process. I know, I know. It seems mundane. But to me the whole entire process from start to finish, recipe website to sweet or savory bite, is very…well…cathartic and relaxing. It’s my yoga – my meditation after a long day at work.
Too bad the dishes can’t clean themselves.
So, I have created a POLL that will remain at the top of my blog posts through Saturday, Sept. 25, at 9 a.m. I need YOU to help me decide which thing(s) to make! Please take a second to vote in the poll, and then I’ll announce the winner(s) on Sunday, Sept. 26.
Thank you in advance! I’m looking forward to another fun food challenge!
