Matkins Reusable Placemats

Last updated on December 7, 2016 by Liza Hawkins

You guys. I’ve been holding onto a kid-related kitchen accessory secret for two years. It wasn’t intentional on my part, but I do feel bad that it’s taken me this long to espouse how cool this local (for my Maryland and Delaware foodies) online shop is.

Matkins sent us two of their reusable placemats to try—which included letting my kids select which of the fresh and hip fabrics they each wanted.

Without any nudging from me, my son went with pirates: Ahoy, Matey!

And my daughter—ever the modern fashionista—went with a bolder pattern: Chevron.

All of the fabric options are listed together, so if your daughter prefers Crabbies or Just Plane Fun (it’s organic!), or your son likes Butterflies for Breast Cancer or Enchanted Forest, they’re all in one place, instead of being divided into girl/boy sections!

My kids have used Matkins as they’re intended (placemats at the dinner table), and I love how you can wipe down the surface OR just throw the whole thing in the wash.

Matkins has also made its way to school for use during the kids’ lunch. Mine bring their lunches to school everyday, and this is a fun way for them to add a little flair.

Okay, I’ll be honest.

My soon-to-be first grader never brought his to elementary school last year, nor is he terribly concerned about flair. Or germs, for that matter.

My daughter though? Yep. And with the next school year fast approaching, you might also appreciate this fun and fashionable, zero-waste placemat and napkin option (it comes with a cloth napkin, too)!

Matkins are the hot new must-have lunch accessory that you can feel good about your kids using. Across the country, schools are promoting zero-waste lunches. Now you can do your part while giving your child a safe, eco-chic, affordable placemat and napkin in one convenient bundle.

But, wait. There’s more!

My daughter has also found other uses for her Matkins, which include non-food activities like painting her nails. Genius, that girl.

Update! Just in time for back to school, Matkins wants one of you to have the chance to win one of their cute reusable placemats! The giveaway starts on Saturday, August 15, and runs through Sunday, August 29, at midnight—open to US residents only.

Matkins sent me two of their placemats for free to try. All opinions are mine!
