This time last week I was visiting my husband in the hospital. He was unexpectedly admitted after two days of wacko blood sugar (500+) and Hemoglobin A1C (14) readings.
Turns out out he’s diabetic.
Since then it’s been seven days of testing blood sugar before and after meals, going grocery shopping to buy foods that are more “diabetic-friendly,” insulin injections and routines we never expected.
Who knew we’d be excited over a full day’s worth of blood sugar readings below 200? (That was today, until dinnertime anyway.)
So, we’re plugging along. Making adjustments. Trying new foods. Being good sports.
And a lot of the food listed below? Off limits in this house. Well, except for the bouillabaisse, I suppose.
But we can still celebrate the food holidays anyway, even if some of us are only able to do it virtually!
