September 10 | National TV Dinner Day

September 10 is National TV Dinner Day.
TV dinners were so obscure in my house growing up that, as a child, I felt like they were a treat. Plus, there was dessert, right there next to the peas and carrots. The temptation to eat that stiff, over-cooked brownie was nearly unbeatable…. And, yet, there’s Mom, always watching to make sure the brownie was the last to survive. Dang.

Kids love little compartments, the perfect size to fit just what you need to eat. I was reminded of this when I put together my last Ideabook for Houzz.com, all about clever ways to pack school lunch.

Nowadays TV dinners have improved (some of them, anyway) with brands like Amy’s that serve organic pre-made meals from pizza to enchiladas, vegan to gluten-free. And…arguably the most delicious frozen dinners on the market!
Another fun idea is to make your own TV dinners out of leftovers. You can even buy reusable compartment plates that are easy to freeze, and even easier to reheat. How easy is that?
Do you have a favorite TV dinner memory?

  1. Yeah…..favorite TV dinner was, WAS
    Swanson’s Turkey Slices.

However, just for snacking…last time bit into the stuffing was rewarded with bite on steel hard kernal of corn…lost
    upper middle front tooth.
Evidently this happens all to frequently.

    Awaiting settlement from distributer.

  2. Oh my goodness! That’s crazy!
