Musings: 2010 Christmas Cookies

In an effort to save time this year, I had the not so bright idea to buy a premix bag of cookie dough, you know…the bags in the isle with the brownie and cake mixes? I typically make my cookies from scratch since it’s not that difficult and they taste so good. But, I was at the grocery store, and I couldn’t remember what ingredients I had already at home (work has had me so busy, I haven’t had a thorough grocery store run in weeks), and the premix bags of cookie dough were on sale. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

I bought two packages, one with M&M type candy and the other just a simple sugar cookie. The taste once baked? Okay. The process of actually making the cookies? Horrible. Crumbly, difficult to mix – it was downright annoying. AND, the bags were two different brands – one store brand, one name brand. So I can’t even blame a particular manufacturer (unless it happens to make the cookie mix for both).
Next time I’ll just make my cookies from scratch OR I’ll by the pre-made roll of dough in the fridge isle. Lesson learned.
