Out and About: Clyde’s of Columbia

Last updated on November 11, 2010 by Liza Hawkins

I just spent the past two days in Columbia, MD, for a planning conference. There are several benefits to being in Columbia:
  1. Close to home. I live about 45 minutes west of Columbia, so while I did have to stay overnight, the travel time home wasn’t that bad.
  2. Shopping. The Mall in Columbia – need I say more?
  3. Restaurants. Everywhere you look, there’s a different dining experience at your fingertips.
Speaking of restaurants, while I was there, I ate not once, but twice at Clyde’s of Columbia. (It happened to be within walking distance of my hotel – major bonus.) And while I tried a lot of awesome food between dinner the first night and a social hour the next (bacon wrapped scallops, crab puffs, whipped sweet potatoes, crab gnocchi and more) my favorite dish was by far this salad:

Fig and Arugula Salad
arugula, Black mission figs, toasted walnuts, crumbled blue cheese, sherry vinaigrette and a honey port wine reduction

As a starter, this salad was huge, filling a dinner plate. But I’ll tell you what, I would have gladly skipped my main course for a double portion of this simple succulent salad. Perfection!
